*THE GUERNSEY YACHT CLUB are planning to host the Hobie Tiger & Wildcat Nationals on their Guernsey Regatta weekend the 3rd and 4th Sept. Benn Garnham called and said they were very excited about the event which follows the Hobie C.I. Champs (25th Anniversary) in Jersey and the week after the event is the Jersey Regatta, so it’s going to be a fantastic 3 consecutive  weekends of major Championship and Regatta racing for the Fleet.

*THE OTHER GOOD NEWS from Benn is the Club are allowing small Cats back racing in the Carey Olsen Inter-Island race from Guernsey next year, beginning of July. Hobies used to race this event in years gone by, but were prevented for safety reasons in more recent years. Alex is really excited that the ruling has changed and has fond memories of the event, where one year he sailed his H16 from St. Ouen’s bay (in convoy) to Guernsey single handed trapezing in a force 3 to 4, as his crew had to fly over later, ready for the race back the next day.

While most of the catsailing in Holland takes place on the North Sea coast, the Dutch Dragoon Cup is hosted by the Cat Club Zeeland on the Veerse Meer (Veere Lake). The water is shallow and relatively protected so conditions are fairly well each year. The event is open to Hobie Dragoons and C3 (on handicap). This year 35 (!) youth teams from Holland and Belgium among them 21 Hobie Dragoon teams, fought a fierce battle over 2 days, October 10 & 11.

The Dutch Dragoon Cup is suited for less experienced youth as well ; CCZ arranges a certified trainer to coordinate the program of races and practices. Coaches were allowed to give feedback during racing as well. Weather was very good again this year, though a little bit cold. Saturday 2 races were sailed and after lunch a long distance race around the island in front of the club. The youngsters stayed at a camping farm close to the club where the volunteers of CCZ arranged a meal and at night a fun program lead to very enthusiastic cross-club teams competing in a quiz.
